At the 2017 Bid to Build Annual Auction & Celebration, Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley had the opportunity to honor two incredible community supporters.
The Robert L. Whitacre Volunteer Award is awarded to individuals whose spirit and dedication to Habitat’s mission matches that of Bob Whitacre. Bob served as a house leader for the Good News House for more than a decade and made a lasting impact on furthering Habitat’s mission. The 2017 Robert L. Whitacre Volunteer of the Year Awardee was Margaret Bayless.
Maggie certainly exhibits the spirit and dedication that Bob did with her passion for the Habitat mission and in her Board of Directors seat. Maggie has chaired the Family Assessment Committee, traveled to Guatemala in 2015 and 2017, served on the board since 2012, and has assisted in Zingerman’s becoming a Habitat House Sponsor. Maggie stated from her travels to Guatemala that, “On both of those trips, working alongside staff members and other volunteers gave me new insights and connected me even more closely to Habitat’s mission.”
Janette Ferrantino received the 2017 Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley Partner of the Year Award. Janette Ferrantino and the J. Ferrantino Charitable Foundation’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley has been impacting lives for nearly a decade; sponsoring five houses and providing five families with a stable place to call home.
Janette has supported Habitat since 2009 when she was immediately impressed with the comprehensive approach that Habitat takes towards participating families and their dream of homeowernship. She believes in the critical importance of a strong family and home environment in setting the stage for a happy, successful life. This belief is the primary reason she remains committed as a House Sponsor to support Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley.
Thank you Maggie and Janette for your continued support, commitment, and dedication to the Habitat mission throughout the years!
