After 19 years of homeownership, Gloria Lee pays off her Habitat mortgage! A monumental moment for Gloria was when she stopped into the Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley office in August of 2017 to make her very last mortgage payment.
Gloria not only loves being a homeowner, but she also loves her job. She is currently a bus driver with the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority. Her two boys Warren and Royce grew up in the Habitat home that Gloria received. Warren was 10 and Royce was 1 when the family of three moved into their new home. Gloria was most excited that this home gave her and her family a place to gather. Family barbeques in the backyard and a place for holidays.
Becoming a part of the Habitat family lasts so much longer than the length of the program. Throughout her completion of sweat equity hours Gloria became friends with other Habitat homeowners. She recalls fondly that even to this day she will sit on her front porch and catch up with Habitat homeowner, Carolyn Wells, who lives next door.
Gloria says that she is very blessed by Habitat to have received her new home and a large family. To the many volunteers who worked on her home Gloria says, “Thanks, thanks, thanks a million!” Gloria recalls that her favorite part of volunteering on her own home was helping to raise the walls of her own bedroom. The walls that would soon welcome her family. Congratulations Gloria and welcome home!
