Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley hosted the Walker Family’s house dedication on Tuesday, Aug. 22. The house was fully sponsored by NSK Americas, Inc. (NSK), a longtime partner of Habitat Huron Valley.
Since 2007, NSK, a global supplier of roller bearings, ball bearings, linear motion and automotive components, has supported Habitat Huron Valley and contributed more than $123,000 toward Habitat’s mission. For the last three years, NSK has been a full house sponsor, which includes funding for the house renovations and providing more than 545 volunteers. NSK volunteers contributed 1,017 hours of work to help renovate Nakesha and her 2-year-old daughter, Nyla’s, home.
NaKesha Walker, has lived in apartments for most of her life. Despite a college degree from Central Michigan University, Nakesha struggled to find work during the 2008 recession. Within a year, she found her saving grace with the birth of her daughter.
“Since her birth, she has pushed me to want better,” said Nakesha. “I saw no other options for someone like me with low income and fair credit… With the help of Habitat, homeownership has been a new goal I set for my daughter and me.”
At her home dedication, NaKesha said, “Through Habitat I’ve met some pretty AWESOME people that I now call my family. These are people that hammered nails with me, painted walls with me, tore down ceilings with me, dreamed with me, and hoped with me. No one you encounter through Habitat is against you because our goals are common— do something spectacular for others and rest assured the same is being done for you.”
