Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley Accounting Assistant Position

Position Description
HFHHV is seeking a motivated, mission‐oriented, energetic and fun-loving Accounting Assistant to join our team. The candidate should have experience working on an accounting team, and developing a social rapport with team members and staff. Experience in construction and/or nonprofit setting is considered a plus.

Position and Term Schedule
The Accounting Assistant is a regular, part-time position (20-28 hours weekly) with the possibility of becoming full-time in the future, starting immediately. Habitat has a primarily remote-work model with the option to work in a shared space at the Habitat office (950 Victors Way, Suite 50, Ann Arbor) at any time. Regular in-person meetings at our Ann Arbor office will be required. All computer and phone equipment needed to perform the job will be provided by Habitat. The agreed upon position schedule is flexible provided work hours are regularized and occur between Monday and Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Starting pay is $22.00 to 24.00/hour, based on skills and experience. The successful candidate will report to the Accountant and the Finance Director. We offer a friendly and hard‐working environment dedicated to our mission of helping families in Washtenaw County.

Responsibilities
The Accounting Assistant position is responsible for ensuring Accounts Payables are paid in a timely manner and maintaining workflow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately. Other duties include twice weekly deposits of retail income, monthly sales tax remittance, management of 1099/subcontractor files, and other special projects as assigned by Accountant and Finance Director.

Accounts Payable:
• Review and verify invoices and check requests for proper approvals
• Enter all invoices into the accounting system for tracking and payment purposes
• Prepare retail income deposit
• Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments
• Prepare Credit Card reconciliations
• Prepare and perform check runs
• Reconcile accounts payable transactions
• Prepare analysis of accounts
• Monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date
• Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues
• Maintain vendor files
• Correspond with vendors and respond to inquiries

Other Duties:
• Maintain subcontractor files, including insurance paperwork
• Assist with submission of annual 1099s
• Manage Gift in Kind documentation
• Support end-of-month reconciliation processes with finance team
• Maintain notes payable database
• Assist with annual audit
• Other special projects as assigned

Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of GAAP
• Accounting Degree, or equivalent experience
• Experience with QuickBooks Desktop, Excel
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively on team
• Proven ability to work unsupervised and complete assigned tasks, with excellent skills in teamwork and collaboration; able to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, change priorities and adjust schedules as needed.
• Reliability in the remote workplace and flexibility in a growing and fluid work environment

Physical Abilities In accordance with the American Disabilities ACT (ADA):
This position requires the physical ability to:
• Use all senses, including but not limited to sight and hearing.
• Prolonged periods remaining in a stationary position and operating a computer in a remote work environment.

Background check
All employees are subject to a sex offender registry check and a driving record check. In order to drive for Habitat, employees must be at least 21 years of age, with no more than 2 speeding tickets in 2 years or 3 speeding tickets in 3 years. Employees must not have reckless driving or DUI in the previous 5 year period.
