Hardy Family Moves Into Habitat Home

“Now, we will finally be able to have our own traditions without being cramped. We can eat at the table together as a family and we can do tally marks on the doorways every birthday year
— Loise Hardy, Habitat Homeowner

Just in time for the holidays, Louise Hardy and her three children opened the front door of their home for the first time as new Habitat homeowners. Josiah, 10, Rozier, 7, Mailyah, 2 and Louise moved from a two-bedroom condo to the family-fitting 3-bedroom home with a basement and backyard in Ypsilanti, which was supported by MASCO Corporation.

“Since we have grown as a family, there is not enough space for privacy in the house, which can be a bit frustrating at times. The security guards walking around at late hours freak my family out. Family visitors are also uncomfortable… our home was broken into on Christmas Eve. I want to make a change for my own sanity and to build a better future for my family,” Louise said.

“With rental costs being so high, I decided to look into home ownership programs. I knew of Habitat through multiple friends and family, but was too scared to go for it myself. Finally, I did. It took a few tries, but with the staff’s encouragement, financial counseling and educational classes, I made it through. I got my credit together and because of my support team, I was able to find work and keep a full-time job. I was determined to get us away from where we were, and I did just that! Praise God!

“Now, we will finally be able to have our own traditions without being cramped. We can eat at the table together as a family and we can do tally marks on the doorways every birthday year! I want to set family traditions with my children that I was never fortunate enough to have.

“Habitat and the staff have been nothing but caring, considerate. open and there whenever needed. They really care for you and your happiness - building up neighborhoods with permanent homeowners! Habitat has given our family one of the greatest gifts a mother could ask for… a place where a family can grow, share and build memories.”

The Hardy’s Family home renovations were partially funded by Community Partner, MASCO Corp. MASCO has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley since 2010 and has provided more than $220,250 in sponsorship funding and in-kind gifts for over 50 homes. This year, Masco Cabinetry donated and installed cabinets for the Hardy’s home, as well as provided 228 volunteer hours working on renovation projects for the home. Thank you, MASCO, for your continued support.
