Meet the Taylor Family

Kaitlyn and Charles Taylor have been discussing homeownership for the last few years now. Recently married this past year, and finalizing the adoption of their two oldest girls in January 2020, they decided it was time to take the next step.

They have three daughters Kinah, 13, Evee, 11, and Destiny, 5. They are both from the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area however, Kaitlyn went to Huron High and Charles went to Pioneer. They currently rent a three-bedroom home in Ypsilanti, but with the cost of living increasing in Washtenaw County on a consistent basis, it makes it challenging to keep things affordable. It also makes it challenging to save money to purchase a house within their budget.

With their youngest daughter getting ready to start kindergarten in the fall, both Kaitlyn and Charles plan to return back to school to further their education. Partnering with Habitat will help keep housing affordable, allowing for them to go back to school.

They came to Habitat thinking they would learn how to buy a house and/or manage their financing, enabling them to purchase a home in the future. Owning their own home will mean a lot to them. It will make their living situation more stable, allowing them to remain in one home instead of moving every few years to keep the cost affordable. Homeownership will allow the girls to have a childhood home where they can create memories and have one final home instead of several.

The Taylor family looks forward to owning their own home so everyone can decorate and have a space they can call their own. “If we had to describe Habitat we would say it’s a group of amazing people with an abundance of knowledge willing to help families achieve appropriate and affordable housing. The classes they offer, and the sweat equity hours you put in teach you a variety of different things, and I don’t think we would have been taught these specific things without partnering with Habitat. We would like to thank our sponsors for assisting us with purchasing our first home as a family, and making it possible!”
