Meet the Hinton Family
“I am originally from Michigan. I work in property management in Ann Arbor assisting people with finding housing and I have done so for many years.
“For the past 15 years, I have rented homes. I have four children and having to move them every couple years due to increased rental rates is stressful. Every time I had to move my children, they had to make new friends and switch schools. I decided that I did not want to rent and move from house to house. My family needed stability, so in 2019 I began working on my credit and saving because I was determined to get a forever home.
“My parents became Habitat homeowners many years ago, so I was already familiar with the program, but I need to be sure that it was the best program for me and my children. I attended a meeting and the rest is history!
“I really appreciate the classes and training that Habitat offers, it is priceless information. While doing my construction hours I learned how to handle basic repairs that will come in handy in the future. The construction staff take the time to explain things and they love the opportunity to teach someone something new!
“Habitat is not just selling you a home, they are educating you and providing you with resources and tools that may come in handy should you encounter any issues in the future.
“Owning a home is a blessing and I thank God for this opportunity! I am looking forward to celebrating holidays, family gatherings and making memories with my family in our forever home. Thank you Habitat!”
Ms. Hinton's home was sponsored in 2021 by Bank of America and the John and Renee Stanton Family Fund.
Since 2007, Bank of America has supported our local affiliate with nearly $50,000 in funding toward our programs, and with $30,000 toward the Hinton Family’s home. The John and Renee Stanton Family Fund have been a partner of Habitat since 2011, and have graciously donated over $295,000 toward five homes. The family has strong ties to the Washtenaw County community.
