Meet the Arnold Family

“Browning was the first house I was given to begin working off my ‘sweat equity’ hours. Back then, I had no idea that it would be offered to me. I absolutely LOVE watching it transform from uninhabitable to a perfect home for us. I have always enjoyed working with my hands, but until now I knew very little about home improvement. I feel confident I will be able to tackle small home repairs on my own after this experience.

“Growing up, I lived in many houses and many states and always felt like a nomad. Once I had my first child, I decided to settle down in Ypsilanti. I promised myself I would stay here so they would have the stable home life that I never had. I have kept that promise, and now I can also say that I have given them a safer and cleaner home.

“My daughters, Violet, and Sadie are entering middle school and high school this year and look forward to living in a home where they feel comfortable having their friends over and a nice backyard to entertain them. Violet has been asking for a new dog for years, but I always said no – we didn’t have a yard. I promised her that someday we would when we had a fenced-in yard. Now that we do, she CAN’T WAIT! Sadie and I are both creative and plan on setting up an art area in the basement and also utilizing the ceramic kiln that has been sitting dormant for 15 years.

“We very much appreciate the opportunity given to us by Habitat for Humanity. The girls and I are grateful for the volunteers that help make our new home possible! I have enjoyed working with the Habitat folks, who are so kind, and look forward to meeting more volunteers as the house takes shape.”

- Kim Arnold, Future Habitat Homeowner

The Arnold Family’s Home is sponsored by the congregations of the 2021 Good News Group, Bank of America and Ford. Since 1997, Good News Group’s 15 area congregations join us each summer to pool their resources and help fund and build homes in the community. Good News has helped 35 families achieve affordable homeownership and raised more than $40,000 to support the Arnold Family’s Home. Since 2007, Bank of America has generously donated more than $70,000 toward Habitat’s local programs, helping more families achieve affordable homeownership each year.
