Volunteer with the Good News Group

Volunteering on our construction sites

NO BUILDING SKILLS ARE REQUIRED! Most of our volunteers have never been involved with building a house and/or landscaping. All that’s needed is your willingness to learn and to help in those ways which your physical stamina allows – and your desire to work with others to provide a home for a Habitat partner family. Due to safety regulations, those under the age of 16 are not permitted on site and those 16 and 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Email Leah Tessman at ltessman@h4h.org to obtain a Minor Waiver.

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley provides the homes to be rehabilitated or the sites for new houses, the construction materials, and a paid house leader. The House Leader handles the ordering of construction materials and arranges for them to be delivered to the building sites, as well as directing the construction on a daily basis. The Good News Group provides an Onsite Coordinator for each congregation, who is responsible for coordinating volunteer efforts with Habitat.

Tasks may include light demolition, framing, insulation, blue board, house wrap, siding, floor repair, wall repair/framing, caulking, trim, cabinets, shelving, fixtures, windows and doors, painting, landscaping and yard.
