Meet the Sambe Family
“After moving to the United States and moving from apartment to apartment, paying money out of the windows, we started thinking about buying a house,” said Pape Sambe. “I was talking to one of my colleagues and she told me about a homeownership program she was in at Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley and how to apply.
“I’ve made poor decisions in the past and with bad credit, there was no way I would be approved for a house. That’s when I told my sister and her husband (Soukey and Abdou) to apply and now they have a Habitat home of their own,” Pape said.
Pape and Aby' Sambe’s in-laws closed on their Habitat house a few years ago and live with their little daughter just around the corner from the couple’s future home in Ypsilanti.
“After fixing my credit with the help of Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley’s financial coach, we decided to apply and were approved!
“My wife and I are looking forward to a place to call home. Where our kids will feel safe. We are so fortunate to have the support of Soukey and Abdou and all of our friends who come out to volunteer and help us through this process.
“We want to thank Habitat for Humanity and your team for helping us and showing us the way. Habitat for Humanity is the best program for people like us. I hope they stay around for many many years, and for may many generations,” Pape said.

The Sambe Family’s home is sponsored by the J. Ferrantino Charitable Foundation, who has donated over $450,000 to our home ownership program since 2012. This funding has ensured that 8 families have become Habitat homebuyers. Thank you to the J. Ferrantino family for helping to make such a positive difference in the lives of these homeowners!
